The Cubs have scheduled their first Sunday night game at Wrigley
Field to accommodate a cable television contract, prompting a barrage
of complaints from Wrigleyville restaurants and theaters.
Cubs President Donald Grenesko said the team had no choice but
to schedule the Sept. 9 game against the St. Louis Cardinals because
of a new contract that permits ESPN to televise 24 Sunday night games
this year.
Wrigleyville business and community leaders said Wednesday they
thought the 1988 city ordinance authorizing lights at Wrigley Field
prohibited weekend night games. In fact, the ordinance bans Friday
