DENTON, Texas When the North Texas basketball team opened the
season with a few losses, a monkey climbed on his back, Eagles coach
Jimmy Gales said.
By the time the streak reached 17 games, the monkey had grown
into a full-sized gorilla, he added.
North Texas defeated Stephen F. Austin 100-66 Thursday night in
Southland Conference action to get rid of the gorilla and the
national attention.
Jerrold Gales hit a three-point shot at the buzzer to enable the
Eagles to hit the century mark - and the shot triggered a
celebration.
"I am so glad to have that thing off my back," coach Gales said
Friday. "I felt like we won the national championship. I was so
exhausted.
