Hersey Hawkins scored 20 points as the Philadelphia 76ers
extended the longest winning streak of the NBA season to 12 games
with a 114-89 victory Monday night over the visiting Utah Jazz.
Charles Barkley, hampered by a strained leg muscle, had 16
points and eight rebounds in 27 minutes. Barkley had two steals and
four points to spark a 14-0 76ers' spurt at the end of the first
period for a 35-21 lead.
Karl Malone had 29 points for Utah, which lost for only the
third time in 14 games.
Johnny Dawkins added 16 points, Mike Gminski and Ron Anderson 11
apiece and Rick Mahorn 10 points and 11 rebounds for Philadelphia,
which maintained its tie with the New York Knicks atop the Atlantic ...
