As a symbol of how the other half has been living, especially on
other people's money, a $6,000 shower curtain is almost priceless.
Just such an item tops the list of personal extravagances billed
to Tyco International by its former chieftain L. Dennis Kozlowski,
who was indicted last month on charges of megafraud. Tyco has toted
up more than $20 million in bills for art, antiques and furnishings
alone and is suing to get its money back.
With or without a plastic liner, the princely shower curtain
suggests mildew at the top.
"Vulgar," pronounced Albert Hadley, dean of American interior
designers. "The shower curtain is a functional object in a 21st-
century situation."
