Now that Poland has won its freedom, officials are turning to
the United States to teach them how to build a democratic government
and a free-enterprise economic system.
A group of Polish health and finance officials are in Illinois
this week studying how Chicago and Illinois function.
Illinois Comptroller Roland Burris, who visited Poland recently,
hosted a reception Sunday for the visitors.
"We left Poland with a strong feeling that the seed of democracy
and the seeds of democratic governmental principles, which we have
sown, will yield a rich and bountiful harvest and that Poland itself
will forever be changed," Burris said.
