The Gap, the specialty retailer that has stars the likes of Kim
Basinger modeling its T-shirts, believes that shoppers aged 25-45 are
getting sick of trudging through malls - that they'd rather park near
the door of their favorite store.
Add that to the fact that developers can't get the dough to
build rambling new malls anyway, and the casual-clothing giant thinks
it has the answer to its expansion prayers in Wheaton.
On Tuesday, the Gap, Japan-based Nomura Real Estate USA and
Boston-based developer Carpenter & Co. announced construction of Town
Square-Wheaton, a 180,000-square-foot, $35 million outdoor shopping
center on Naperville Road, between Blanchard Road and East Loop Drive
