One reader referred to her recipe as popping-seed cookies. She
must have been impressed with the sound effects generated in each
mouthful of poppy-seed cookies.
This week's Swap Shop is devoted to poppy-seed cookies - the
dessert that tastes as good as it sounds. Poppy seeds have a sweet,
slightly anise flavor and crunchy texture noticeable when used in
generous amounts, as in the recipes that follow.
Buying poppy seeds by the spice jar full can be very expensive.
Instead, buy them in bulk. Nut stores often carry them. All of the
Home Economist stores - in Lombard, Westmont, Barrington, Des
