It was haunting, chilling and oddly beautiful, a visual poem.
It was the "Who Killed Laura Palmer?" episode of "Twin Peaks,"
and -
Wait! What was that noise, like the rustling of ravens' wings
flapping, like a strong wind whipping through the black night?
Alas, I fear it was the sound of thousands of readers turning to
Page 12. Less than a year after its premiere, less than a year after
the explosion of magazine covers and ecstatic reviews, "Twin Peaks"
is now as ice-cold as Laura Palmer's plastic-wrapped body. Mere
mention of the show provokes groans and eye-rolling among fallen
Peakheads, and nearly violent reactions from those who had stayed
away all along.
