If home-field advantage means anything in wrestling, top-rated
Providence and the other schools from the wrestling-rich Joliet area
will be more dominant than ever in sectional competition this season.
Joliet Central will be host to an individual sectional Feb. 8-9,
the first time the Joliet area has hosted a sectional in 20 years.
Since the Illinois High School Association first paired the
Joliet-area regional with three central Illinois regionals for
sectional competition in 1973, Joliet schools have faced travel times
of up to two hours to Champaign or Normal. Those sites conducted the
sectional every year except 1974, when Bradley hosted.
