Black is out.
Fashion editors have proclaimed doomsday for the color black.
Fortunately, Two's Company was never guilty of some of the
excesses with black in the food world, such as black pasta or black
risotto. Black bean soup was about as far as things went, but what
the heck - this was a classic long before the "little black dress."
However, for the sake of fashion, this column is lightening up.
Instead of the usual chili, which is pretty dark, this week's
suggestion is "white" chili.
White chili is a meatless recipe using navy beans, cheese,
macaroni, onions, garlic and seasonings. For color accents, as they
say in the fashion world, a bit of green chile is added.
