So Commonwealth Edison has juiced up its rates by 7.1 percent and
you feel powerless about the whole thing.
But not so fast. You'd be surprised what you can do.
"There are relatively painless things you can do to cut costs
and more than offset the increase," says Scott Bernstein, president
of the Center for Neighborhood Technology, a Chicago nonprofit group.
You can make a few quick adjustments, in fact, and not even feel
the hike. You won't have to bump around in the dark or even give up
your electric toothbrush.
And if you're really ambitious, and don't mind making a few
investments, you can cut your electric bill as much as 50 percent.
