The enemy became the employer for quarterback Mike Tomczak
Saturday, but mercenary motives weren't behind his switch in
allegiance.
Tomczak said he left the Bears for the Green Bay Packers via
Plan B free agency because of opportunity.
He figured his best chance to prosper was in the cheese country
to the north.
He was sure Green Bay offered more opportunity than Chicago,
where the promise of Jim Harbaugh and Peter Tom Willis threatened to
make Tomczak an outsider in his hometown. Tomczak also thought the
Packers were a better fit than the Browns, who also were in the
bidding for his services.
"Money was the secondary issue," Tomczak's agent Jeff Moorad
