Despite its rapid growth, Crystal Lake retains the refreshing qualities that attracted its original residents.

Settled in 1836, the city wraps itself around the 283-acre, spring-fed Crystal Lake, which attracts recreation-minded Chicagoans to this city 49 miles northwest of the Loop.

Once a posh summer resort, Crystal Lake now combines the services of a large city with the appeal of a small, rural town. There also is plenty of affordable housing, and a thriving industrial and commercial base. All these factors contributed to the recent influx of people settling in the community.
