In terms of brilliance, diversity and sheer volume, no other
musician of the last 15 years can rival Elvis Costello.
Tom Waits, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty, Van Morrison,
Richard Thompson, John Hiatt and Neil Young may come close, but
still, it's no contest. Where Springsteen has released only six
albums of new material in the past decade and a half, Costello has
put out 14 LPs, not to mention "Out of Our Idiot," an import-only
collection of B-sides and rarities credited to such Costello aliases
as the Emotional Toothpaste, the Imposter, the Coward Brothers (with
T-Bone Burnett), and Elvis and the Confederates.
