Article: Riders find the going slow on Skokie Swift substitutes

Some Skokie Swift riders were not happy with having to take the bus Monday after the CTA shut down the rapid transit line to complete track replacement work this summer.

"This isn't so good. It's taking more than 10 minutes longer," said Mary Herndon of Chicago.

She was among the commuters who had to switch to a shuttle bus to get from Howard Street to the Skokie Swift station on Dempster Street in Skokie.

The Skokie trains normally make the five-mile trip in eight minutes. It took 20 minutes for express shuttle buses to travel a six-mile route.
