For the 30th consecutive year, Minnesota won't be making the
Rose Bowl scene in January.
The NCAA saw to that, slapping the Gophers' program with a
one-year probation for crimes that weren't committed by coach John
Gutekunst, his assistant coaches or his players.
"No, it isn't very fair," said Minnesota senior safety Sean
Lumpkin, who's a candidate for the Jim Thorpe Award and the team's
best player. "But that's the way things work. There's nothing we
can do about it."
That isn't to say the Gophers, who've finished 6-5 in four of
the last five years, are going to bury their heads in the sand.
