MINNEAPOLIS Mind games began during workouts Monday for the start
of the American League playoffs tonight, but the Twins paid no mind.
The East Division champion Toronto Blue Jays will follow
knuckleballer Tom Candiotti (13-13, 2.65 ERA) in the opener against
the West Division kings with hard-throwing rookie Juan Guzman
tomorrow, tricky left-hander Jim Key on Friday and Todd Stottlemyre
on Saturday.
"I rememeber what it was like when we would go to Texas and
Charlie Hough was pitching," Blue Jays manager Cito Gaston said of
the knuckleballer who is with the White Sox.
"They'd use Hough in the first game of the series, and it would
mess up our hitters for the whole series.
