All the ingredients were there for a rout - an overpowering
running game, big plays by the quarterback and four first-half
turnovers.
In blowing out Brother Rice 47-0 at Gately Stadium Saturday night,
Mount Carmel (5-2, 3-0) won its fifth consecutive game, thwarted
Brother Rice coach Tom Mitchell's bid for career victory No. 200 and
halted Rice's (5-2, 2-1) string of three consecutive shutouts in the
Catholic League South.
Mount Carmel, which has won five in a row since losses to Joliet
Catholic and Simeon by a combined 187-8 margin, took a half-game lead
in the Catholic South ahead of Leo, which is favored to beat St.
Martin today.
Mount Carmel plays Leo in two weeks.
