Thanks to pesto, the pasta sauce made with basil, garlic and
olive oil, more people are being introduced to pine nuts - the sweet,
high-fat little nuts that are an essential part of the recipe.
As good as pine nuts are in savory dishes, they're even better
in desserts. The nut's size - about the dimensions of a fingernail -
makes it convenient in baking. And its delicate flavor doesn't
interfere with other ingredients.
Unfortunately, pine nuts are relatively expensive. Save money
by buying them in bulk at a nut specialty store. Leftover nuts may
be frozen.
