William Kennedy Smith is a cad, not a rapist.
By his own testimony he was a cold and careless "lover," if love
is what it was. No matter how romantic the moonlight on the beach
(or on the lawn), the groping and rubbing provided little pleasure,
passion or satisfaction for the lady on the towel.
Safe sex it was not. As a snapshot of how some of the rich and
frivolous socialize and sexualize their relationships, this sordid
episode ought to warn us about our expectations for the younger and
poorer and less "privileged" among us.
We can throw condoms at teenage girls and boys on the assumption
that they're reluctant to buy them for themselves, but how likely are
they to use them?
