As 23 Du Page County suburbs begin tapping into Lake Michigan
water, residents can say good riddance to hard, rusty water,
radioactive radium, sprinkling bans - and low water bills.
The Du Page Water Commission is increasing water charges so it
can pay for the newly built, $389 million pipeline system and buy
treated lake water from Chicago. Without lake water, local wells
eventually would run dry.
During the next three months, municipalities will mix lake water
with well water. By May 1, all municipalities plan to use 100
percent lake water.

Bensenville, Bloomingdale, Carol Stream, Clarendon Hills, Darien,
