Article: `Musclebound' fear is a myth

Q. The old question arises about my son and weightlifting. Would he become musclebound?

A. This is an old unjustified canard voiced against weightlifting from time to time. You don't become "musclebound" from a lifting program.

Want proof? Look at Olympic lifters. They have been found to be more flexible than non-lifters. Let your son lift if he wants. He will become stronger and be less prone to injury, to say nothing of his chances for a more successful athletic career. Weightlifting should be balanced, though, so that one area of the body is not sacrificed at the expense of another.
