Article: New Dire Straits offers too much of a good thing

It's been six years since the last Dire Straits tour and seven
since the British group released its last LP. So it was with great
anticipation that fans filed into the Rosemont Horizon Tuesday night
for the British band's concert. What the audience saw was the
return of a musically superior group, but a group that nonetheless
still is best enjoyed in one's living room.
After a brief laser light show, curtains drew back to reveal the
four-man band, which was augmented by a five-piece backup group.
The only two original Strait men were vocalist-guitarist-songwriter
Mark Knopfler and bassist John Illsley. For their first song, they
chose "Calling Elvis" from their current album "On Every ...
