Top-seeded Driscoll, which is seeking to become the second school
to win state championships in football and basketball in the same
school year, rallied to tip Holy Trinity 52-50 Friday for the Class A
regional title at Ridgewood.
In earning a trip to the Wauconda Sectional, the Highlanders
(25-2) overcame a 39-33 deficit after three quarters.
Mike Kamienski's driving layup with 31 seconds to play put
Driscoll ahead 51-50.
Holy Trinity (8-20) had a chance to go ahead, but Armond Gafeney
missed a 19-footer with 12 seconds left.
Driscoll's Mike Vavrek (13 points) then made a free throw with
three seconds remaining.
