Big bettors enjoy a strong favorite in a race, but I prefer a
wide-open race in which the favorite might be as good as 7-2, and the
others all nice prices.
Tomorrow's 117th running of the Preakness has no strong
favorite. Pimlico's oddsmaker has Derby winner Lil E. Tee 7-2 as the
favorite. A $9 mutuel on a favorite isn't bad, but my hard-earned
money will be on Alydeed, who will be quoted in the Pimlico program
at 9-2.
I have a strong feeling that Alydeed, after the Broken Down
Horseplayers here finish this essay, will be less than 9-2, and just
maybe the favorite at Arlington and outlets where the second step of
the Triple Crown will be simulcast with wagers.
