Remember care packages? Those bundles of love and favorite foods may have gotten you over a spate of bad food at summer camp or saved you from starvation during freshman year at college.

Unfortunately, as actress and writer Gretchen Cryer discovered, rough patches don't end when you turn 21.

"About four or five years ago, my parents in Indiana both became invalids at the same time," Cryer said. "My dad had a stroke and mother had osteoporosis. My brother cared for my parents, but he couldn't cook. I (live) in New York and could only come in every other month and cook massive amounts of food for them.
