Ron Britain, the legendary "King B" of radio, pulled off the
switcheroo of his life on Wednesday.
At 6 p.m., he finished his afternoon show on WJMK-FM (104.3),
the oldies station where he has worked since 1984. While his final
record, "Hello, Goodbye" by the Beatles, was playing on the air,
Britain donned a British red coat adorned with medals, turned in a
letter of resignation and rode down an elevator to a waiting
limousine.
By 6:02 p.m. - via cellular telephone - he signed on the air as
afternoon host at WTMX-FM (101.9). His first song at "The Mix" was,
with all irony intended, "Hello, Goodbye."
