When a physician sends a prescription to a hospital pharmacy, few
people consider how or by whom that prescription is filled. Quite
possibly, the person tending to the prescription is a pharmacy
technician.
Pharmacy technicians assist pharmacists in mixing and filling
prescriptions. They also perform numerous other tasks in the pharmacy.
One of the primary responsibilities of a pharmacy technician is
to maintain the necessary stock levels in the pharmacy. This may
include ordering and stocking supplies, preparing inventories and
packaging and labeling drugs, chemicals and other pharmaceutical
preparations.
