Top-rated Mount Carmel romped to its third consecutive Catholic
League wrestling title and fifth in six years Saturday at Weber,
scoring 243.5 points to 148 for No. 10 Gordon Tech. St. Laurence was
third with 145.5.
Mount Carmel advanced nine to the finals and had six champions,
but T.J. Williams' 6-5 title-match loss to De La Salle's Tim
Stringer, rated No. 1 at 140, in a battle of unbeatens in the
135-pound final nearly caused chaos.
Williams (24-1) scored the only two takedowns of the match, but
three penalty points - for a false start, an illegal head scissors,
and locked hands - helped swing the match in Stringer's favor. The
