Mount Carmel was coasting with a 17-point lead in the fourth
quarter of its game at De La Salle Friday when the Meteors scored
nine unanswered points to get within eight with 3:31 to play.
Hardly a time to panic for most teams. But for Mount Carmel it
was almost a moment of truth.
"I think some of our fans had a flashback of de Sales," coach
Mike Curta said, referring to a home loss to St. Francis de Sales
when the Caravan lost a 16-point lead in the second half. "They were
probably thinking, `Oh no. Not again.'
This time it was different. After a time out, Antoine Walker hit
a 12-foot jumper to start a 7-0 run that clinched a 68-51 victory,
dropping De La Salle from a first-place tie ...
