Super onion soup was the "Our Favorites" special of the day on
Feb. 5. I picked Un Grand Cafe, Eccentric and Zaven's for bellying
up to a bowl of this hearty soup.
Readers cried out to get their favorites recognized, as the choice
list below shows. Winner of an autographed copy of my book, The

I can't claim to have had onion soup at too many places, but of
the places I've been to, my easy favorite is the Mellow Yellow
restaurant (1508 E. 53rd St., 312-667-2000). Their soup includes
the croute as well as a piece of melted and browned Muenster cheese.
