Jon Bon Jovi is the ultimate generic rock star.
He looks the part, he speaks in the right cliches, and he writes
songs that seem destined to be heard over stadium public address
systems.
Over the course of four albums, he and his band became one of
the biggest musical forces of the '80s. But his music is most
remarkable for how unremarkable it is.
To critics, Bon Jovi's multiplatinum success never jibed with
the quality of his music. As long as the fans were in his court, it
