If your youngster has diarrhea, too much fruit juice could be at
fault. It's a common problem.
But which fruit juice is least likely to cause chronic diarrhea
in an infant or toddler - apple juice, pear juice, grape juice or
orange juice? The answer is orange juice, according to a committee
of pediatric professors writing in the Journal of Pediatrics.
The reason: Orange juice is low in fructose and has no sorbitol.
Both are sugars that tend to promote diarrhea in susceptible infants
and toddlers. The worst culprit is apple juice, high in both
fructose and sorbitol. Pear juice is also likely to cause diarrhea,
and white grape juice less so.
