Joseph J. Cortez, 76, a well-known Chicago Heights employee and
political stalwart, died Wednesday in St. James Hospital, Chicago
Heights.
Mr. Cortez was a foreman for the village's streets and sanitation
department for more than 15 years. He retired in 1983.
For two decades, the longtime Chicago Heights resident served the
Bloom Township Republican Organization, mostly as a precinct captain.
A Princeton, Ill., native, he came to this area as a young child
