In the driveway are the hose, water bucket, cleansers, sponges, cloths . . . and your dirty car. All that's needed is muscle to make it sparkle.

But wait. Should you wash your auto at home, or use a modern, professional car wash, which has "friendly" cleaning items such as soft cloths, instead of the old bristle brushes?

Opinions vary, but most say there's nothing wrong with today's car washes - if they're operated correctly.

Still, some wouldn't take an auto near a car wash.
