Article: No News Hardly Good News: Second Place Norm for Norman

Greg Norman finished second at the Western Open Sunday at Cog Hill's Dubsdread course.

This is not news.

It would have been news if it weren't the fifth time in 10 years the Australian-born Great White Shark had been runner-up at the Western, not to mention the third time in a row.

Norman lost in a playoff in 1984 to Tom Watson at Butler National and he finished second to D.A. Weibring in 1987 in the rain-shortened 54-hole tournament also at Butler.

With his finish Sunday, Norman breaks the record for No. 2 finishes held by Walter Hagen, who won the Western five times. Norman never has.

But anyone tempted to feel sorry for Norman might want to consider that with his $129,600 ...
