Article: Cancer-Risk Counseling Puts Disease in Perspective

People who are counseled about their risks of developing cancer are more likely to adopt a healthy lifestyle, spend less time worrying about getting cancer, and take steps to detect tumors earlier, according to a California geneticist.

Cancer-risk counseling is a growing field that provides people with information about their risks for cancer - both hereditary and environmental, said Patricia T. Kelly, director of medical genetics and cancer-risk counseling at Salick Health Care, Inc. in Los Angeles.
