People who are counseled about their risks of developing cancer
are more likely to adopt a healthy lifestyle, spend less time
worrying about getting cancer, and take steps to detect tumors
earlier, according to a California geneticist.
Cancer-risk counseling is a growing field that provides people
with information about their risks for cancer - both hereditary and
environmental, said Patricia T. Kelly, director of medical genetics
and cancer-risk counseling at Salick Health Care, Inc. in Los
Angeles.
"The kinds of information (we have) to give to people are very
precise, much more exact than we used to have," said Kelly recently
