WASHINGTON NASA on Tuesday selected the Boeing Defense and Space
Group as the prime contractor for the newly redesigned Space Station
Freedom and said Houston's Johnson Space Center would serve as the
hub for the project.
In winning the role of prime contractor, Boeing beat out
Grumman Aerospace Corp., McDonnell Douglas Corp. and Rockwell
International's Rocketdyne Division, but all three have agreed to be
subcontractors to Boeing, the National Aeronautics and Space
Administration said.
The Johnson Space Center won out over the Marshall Space Flight
Center in Huntsville, Ala., and the Lewis Research Center in
Cleveland, Ohio.
