Atanning bed, a pizza oven, a canoe, television sets, telephones,
tools galore: It's all there for the stealing at McCormick Place.
Despite beefed-up security, ripoffs are a fact of life at the
nation's biggest expo center, and exhibitors say they've come to
expect widespread theft.
While it hasn't scared away major trade shows, theft at
McCormick Place has raised the cost of doing business, tainting
Chicago's reputation as a top convention center.
Some exhibitors say they have cut back on their McCormick Place
displays for fear of being looted. They're also taking extensive -
and expensive - security precautions.
And they resent it, especially when they're convinced it's
McCormick ...
