James, 16, has been in foster care since he was 5 years old. He
has lived in a children's home for the past 18 months.
James is a friendly, likable and hard-working boy. He stutters,
so he rarely initiates conversation. He has good manners and is
well-behaved.
James is mildly mentally disabled. He is in the 10th grade at
public school in a behavior disorder classroom. Academically, James
works at approximately the third-grade level. In some classes, James
has been mainstreamed with other children. James gets
average grades, and his favorite subjects are P.E. and vocational
courses. Sometimes James has trouble paying attention in class
because he has a short attention span.
