McCall's magazine is dead. But soon it will be reincarnated as
Rosie, a magazine edited by TV talk show host Rosie O'Donnell.
McCall's -- which began in 1876 as a vehicle to promote sales of
tailor James McCall's dress patterns -- ceased publication with its
March issue, which is now on newsstands. Its parent company, Gruner &
Jahr, will launch Rosie in April, exactly a year after the wildly
successful debut of Oprah Winfrey's O: The Oprah Magazine.
Originally, the new magazine was to be called Rosie's McCall's,
which would have made it America's largest magazine with two
possessive apostrophes in its title. But focus groups found that name
confusing.
