Linda West Eckhardt hasn't used her Kitchen Aid mixer in at least
a year. Her sifter and double boiler are tucked away who knows
where.
She has nothing against those venerable workhorses of the
well-stocked kitchen. But since she can make almost anything with
the help of just her food processor and microwave oven, she sees no
need to clutter her counters.
Eckhardt is co-author with Diana Collingwood Butts of Dessert in
Half the Time (Crown, $25), billed as a guide to using the microwave
and food processor "to make great desserts in less time than it takes
to buy a pint of ice cream." The duo applies new techniques to homey
favorites such as hot fudge sauce, apple pie, sponge cake, lemon ...
