This might come as a surprise, especially to Catholic League
bashers out there who say the once proud and fearsome league isn't
what it used to be: The league is the Chicago area's top football
talent source for the Big Ten.
A look at Big Ten rosters and depth charts shows 23 former
Catholic League players on Big Ten rosters, including 11 lettermen.
The next best producer is the Public League with 12 players, six of
whom earned letters.
The Catholic League also has five freshman signees waiting their
turn, the most of any area conference.
"I'm not surprised," St. Rita coach Todd Wernet said.
