Raul Munoz bought a mule two years ago for use just one day a
year, when he trucks his donkey, along with three horses, to the
Southwest Side Little Village neighborhood for Posada En La Villita.
"I want to remind the children what a posada in Mexico would
be like," said Munoz, who owns the Carniceria Atotonilco grocery
store at 3919 W. 26th St. in the neighborhood.
The horses, for the three kings, and the mule, for Mary and
Joseph, lead two processions that wind up at a spirited festival.
A longtime tradition in Mexico, the celebration of Las Posadas
reenacts the Christian tradition of Joseph and Mary's search for
lodging in Bethlehem just as Mary is about to give birth to Jesus. ...
