JACKSONVILLE, Fla. Alabama coach Gene Stallings insisted that
his team would be ready to play in the Gator Bowl. He assured
everyone that his players were over the disappointment of not
defending their national championship.
He was right.
Brian Burgdorf threw for two touchdowns and ran 33 yards for
another score as the 18th-ranked Crimson Tide overpowered 12th-ranked
North Carolina 24-10 on Friday.
It was the kind of game that Stallings loves: methodical on
offense, stingy on defense. And this time there was no quarterback
