NEW YORK GI Joe, the toy behind the childhood war games of millions of American boys, turned 30 years old Monday with the fanfare of a real-life war hero.

Actors, skydivers, children and toymaker executives at a corporate promotion burst onto a stage next to a 60-foot inflatable doll to mythologize one of America's best-selling toys.

"GI Joe represents the triumph of good over evil," said child star Jonathan Taylor Thomas of the television program "Home Improvement."

He said the moveable plastic figure had been part of his life for eight years and was one of his favorite heroes.
