Article: Johnson Feels The Heat From School Board

Within four days last week, the Chicago School Board escalated its message to the school system's top leaders from "Get results - fast" to "Get results - fast. Or else."

Board President D. Sharon Grant stepped up the pressure on School Supt. Argie K. Johnson and other top administrators to improve the system by next spring, when the board will need help tackling its next financial crisis.

"Nobody is questioning anybody's commitment," Grant said Friday. "We're saying: `Look at a situation, diagnose it and begin to treat it.' It appears they're still floundering."
