Article: TB Cases Fall in Illinois // Epidemic Appears to Ease in Chicago, Too

The tuberculosis epidemic eased statewide last year, with a 2.4 percent drop in the number of new cases, to 1,240, state health officials said Wednesday.

The worst may be over for Chicago, too. The 798 new cases recorded last year meant an increase of only three cases from 1992.

And the number of new cases reported during the first two months of 1994 was down sharply from the same period last year, Chicago Health Department officials said Wednesday.

There also were fewer new cases around the country, including in New York (down 15 percent) and Los Angeles (down 12 percent).
