Another piece of Chicago-ana may soon be a thing of the past.

A plan for a new retail center in the 600 block of North Michigan Avenue would mean the demolition of a building that houses the only public interior in the country designed completely by famed architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe.

"I think this is one of the most important modern interiors in the country by one of the important and great architects of the 20th century," said Myron Goldsmith, an architect who worked with Mies van der Rohe for seven years. "This is a real Mies interior. It's the only one in the United States, except his own apartment."
