An Oregon study suggests a possible link between vitamin B6 deficiency and some symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome, a painful condition affecting the wrist and hand.

But it would be "jumping the gun" to say that lack of vitamin B6 contributes to the condition, whose symptoms include numbness, tingling and pain in the hands, sometimes severe enough to awaken people at night, said James E. Leklem, professor of nutrition and food management at Oregon State University in Corvallis, who headed the study. Many experts link carpal tunnel syndrome to repetitive tasks such as typing.
